김태연(Taeyeon Kim, 1987)규격, 제한, 제도, 조건, 한계 등 현실의 ‘틀’을 인식하고 그것을 작업의 출발점으로 삼았다. 이는 인간이 현실에서 느끼는 불만 혹은 문제점을 은유한다. 작업실 공간의 물리적 한계에 부딪혔을 때, 도구의 규격이나 제한적인 사용 범위를 넘어서고자 할 때 그는 갑자기 막연해지면서도 그 상황이 조금 흥미롭다고 말한다. 이 고정된 틀의 맹점을 찾고 또 다른 가능성이나 새로운 의미를 발견하고 맞대응 할 수 있는 대안을 제시하는 것이 김태연의 작업이다. 작가는 서울시립대학교 환경조각학과를 졸업하고 미국 메릴랜드 예술대학에서 석사를 졸업했다. 갤러리2(서울, 2021), 보안여관(서울, 2020), 어쩌다갤러리2(서울, 2019)에서 개인전을 가졌으며 아트 스페이스 풀, 대만 TAV Barry Room, 부산시립미술관, 오픈스페이스 배 등에서 열리는 단체전에 참여했다. 작품은 서울특별시청, 부산현대미술관에 소장되어 있다.

Taeyeon Kim (b.1987) recognized the framework of reality in standardization, restrictions, institutions, conditions, and limitations, and used them as scaffolding for his work. The reality-framework is another name for the deep-seated frustration and dissatisfaction that seems to nip at the very roots of human existence. Confronted by the physical boundaries of his studio space, or when certain tools needed to be used beyond allowed specifications, Kim encountered an odd vagueness and some bemusement. Seeking exceptions, back doors, and dead spots in that rigid framework to offer alternate possibilities or even new meaning counteraction are all within Taeyeon Kim’s practice.
